Student Survey Will Help ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ Plan Opportunities for Miners’ Success
³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ and The University of Texas System will use information from a survey of freshmen and seniors to enhance opportunities for students that promote their success in college and after earning a degree.
Eligible first-year and senior students received an email invitation from ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ President Heather Wilson in late February with instructions on how to access the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), which will be open through the spring semester. Students also may access it by logging in at and looking for the NSSE logo on the right side of the screen. The survey should only take about 15 minutes to complete.
³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ and UT System leaders will use the information collected in the survey to shape opportunities that promote student success in college and after earning a degree. ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ has participated in the NSSE for more than a decade.
Research has shown that student participation in high-impact practices (HIPs) is associated with retention and graduation. Examples of HIPs include service-learning experiences and internships as well as research, scholarly and creative activities with faculty members. The NSSE provides University administrators and faculty with a way to gauge participation and awareness of HIPs to ensure students take full advantage of these opportunities.
