Bernard Morgan told me that this is a picture of the first M that the Mining Students of Texas College of Mines painted on Mt. Franklin. He did not remember the date, but said that the picture was printed in THE FLOWSHEET or THE PROSPECTOR.
The second and last M on Mt. Franklin was painted just north of the main lookout point on scenic drive. The new M was designed to have the right proportions when viewed from a distance and also was a more pleasing design.
Bernard Morgan was a partner in the firm J. E. Morgan and Sons which built at least 3 buildings at Texas College of Mines (including the COTTON MEMORIAL BUILDING)
