Medical Care While Traveling Internationally
To ensure the safety and well-being of all travelers, it is important to understand the appropriate steps to take when medical care is needed. The guidance below outlines how to respond in emergency and urgent situations, including when to seek immediate care and how to coordinate with On Call International for support, payment guarantees, and assistance throughout the process.
Emergencies
Urgent Care / Emergency Room Visits
If your situation is urgent, but not critical, and it is determined you should seek care from an urgent care or emergency department, contacting On Call in advance allows On Call to attempt to place a guarantee to pay the invoice with the hospital if there is coverage to do so.
This process can take a few hours depending on the hospital, and On Call will advise when the guarantee is placed at which point you should proceed to the hospital. There are a few steps involved to ensure On Call can process the medical expenses on your behalf, and your participation in the process is necessary. These steps include a medical release and confirmation of eligibility.
If at any point travelers feel they need care immediately, they should always proceed to the emergency room, advise On Call there are doing so, and On Call will expedite as much as possible.
